They've still got some meat on them.

Got the front calipers off Rat-L-Trap. Pretty nasty stuff. Had to cut a bolt and I’ll need to drill it out of the knuckle.

The driver’s side was frozen and the passenger came out no problem. Not sure how to remove the piston from the frozen one.

I’ll give that a try. I pumped it full of pb blaster yesterday so we’ll see where we end up next time I get into the garage.

How old do you think the pads were?

Those are considerably nastier than the pads I pulled off the WRX, but they do have more meat. Mine were almost to the backing plate.

I really have no idea but if I had to guess I’d say at least 10 years.

It’s funny because I took the truck for a spin a few times when it was together and it had no problem stopping. Even drove on and off a trailer with no issues.

Just wondering because really old stuff can have asbestos in it. Not good to bang on it without a mask.

always good to give the brakes a good check on a car you buy. This is the discovery I made on my subaru after purchase. I made a cursory inspection pre-buy and saw ok pad material. Turns out the other side of the same wheel was completely gone. Wearing unevenly, likely due to ungreased slides.

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t know which is worse, yours that were completely gone, or mine that pretended to not be completely gone and thus instilled me with a small measure of confidence in them

Well mine weren’t on a street legal vehicle so there’s that.
